Stay Safe!

La Sécurité

Montreal’s dance-punk five-piece, La Sécurité, shares their debut album, Stay Safe!, set to be released on June 16th via Mothland, and it’s an indie rock/post-punk giant.

The album opens with the track “Le Kick,” which bears catchy guitar riffs and pairs with an infectious melody and glassy synths. It’s the ultimate track to open a record with. The vocals are spoken word, more than sung, which gives it a rad vibe.

Since the five-piece came together in Spring 2022, they performed at SXSW, FME, Phoque OFF, and Tavern Tour. Their songs touch upon themes of benevolence, caring for each other, and dancing as if it were a revolution.

The following track, “Dis-moi,” is sung in French, but the song is truly infectious, even if you don’t speak the language, the track will definitely assuage your ears.

One of the album’s standout tracks and singles, “Anyway,” is an excellent example of the band’s best work on the album. “Anyway” is decorated with brassy guitars, rhythmic drums, and a contagious melody. The brassiness of the guitars adds depth to the track.

The fourth track on Stay Safe!, “Waiting For Kenny,” is an infectious new wave/80s song that is another one of the album’s standout tracks, with rhythmic bass and synths.

“Suspens” is unique and infectious with its unusual synth melody. One of the most interesting things about this band is how distinctive they are with their music. I can’t compare them to any other band I’ve heard before.

The track “Serpent” has sick opening drums and a bass line with a rhythm that forces you to wanna move and dance. The track is one of the standout tracks on the album, and I can see why they chose this song to be a single because of its depth of different rhythms happening in the track simultaneously. The lead vocalist sings in French throughout much of the track.

This record is an alt/indie rock album, which you can play the entire way through and not skip a song. The last two tracks, “Hot Topic” and “Sleepy Rebellion,” are just as infectious as the other songs on Stay Safe!

This five-piece Montreal band is definitely one, you want to watch out for in 2023.
