theMIND Announces Don’t Let It Go To Your Head
theMIND, né Zarif Wilder, will release his new album, Don’t Let It Go To Your Head, on November 13th. The album features Chicago-bred artists Saba, Qari, Phoelix, and Sun alongside LA-based rapper Kari Faux. Produced entirely by Montreal-based producer Da-P (Soulection) and mixed by L10, the album also includes the previously-released singles “Ms. Communication,” “Gemini Shit,” and “Free Trial,” the latter of which receives a Bradley A. Murray-directed visual today.
Don’t Let It Go To Your Head was born as both a survival mantra and record full of brutal honesty to clear the air. Whereas his previous 2016 mixtape, Summer Camp, escaped life’s pain in the kaleidoscopic and surreal, the new album faces it unflinchingly. In Wilder’s hands, bad times and good times are as fleeting as they are inseparable.
theMIND is an alternative R&B and hip-hop artist from Philadelphia. He began writing music when he was 9, as a means to cope with being in and out of different foster homes; eventually, he was taken in by a teacher, who supported Wilder’s dreams of pursuing a music career. He moved to Chicago to study music business at Columbia College in 2007, and subsequently formed the production group THEMpeople the following year with 4 other friends.
Though a Philly native, Chicago quickly adopted Wilder. Since arriving in the city, the singer has worked with more than a handful of its notable artists including G-Herbo, Mick Jenkins, Noname, Chance the Rapper, Smino, Joey Purp, Saba, Ravyn Lenae, Pivot Gang and so many more, and toured with some of the aforementioned names like Noname and Mick Jenkins as well as Ibeyi and Jamila Woods.
