“Juice of Mandarins” by Ibeyi

Ibeyi recently dropped “Juice of Mandarins.” A rendition of the song recently debuted on A COLORS SHOW. Written by Ibeyi’s Lisa-Kaindé, with production from Richard Russell, this latest single follows the duo’s third album Spell 31, which was released in May.

“‘Juice of Mandarins’ is my favorite love song I’ve ever written.

It is about the ecstasy of falling in love. The sensuality of allowing someone to see all of you. It’s about reality becoming supernatural.

Love is the most radical life changing, meaningful experience, thus, “my love for you ain’t quiet”.” – Lisa-Kaindé of Ibeyi

Since the release of Spell 31, the duo has appeared on Later with Jools Holland to perform their single “Sister 2 Sister”, lending their track “Made of Gold” to the FIFA23 soundtrack, or landing their first Latin GRAMMY nomination for their feature on Residente’s political single “This is Not America.”

After tackling subjects like womanhood, racism, and activism on their 2017 release Ash and familial history, death and origins on their 2015 self-titled release, on Spell 31 the twins set out to remobilize the power of their birth given destiny as Ibeyi, which has led them on a path to restoration in pursuit of true harmony, healing and magic. Featuring appearances from Jorja Smith, Pa Salieu, BERWYN, Ibeyi’s father and mother and a reimagining of Black Flag’s “Rise Above,”

“Spell 31 is an antidote to apathy in a divided world,” explains activist and storyteller Janaya Future Khan in an essay on Spell 31 commissioned after Ibeyi met Khan late last year. With a fall European tour set to begin next month and North American dates now scheduled for Spring 2023, Ibeyi will hit the road with an aim to heal performing their blend of Yoruban music with modern jazz, pop, electronic, soul and hip-hop across the globe.
