Born Ruffians will release new album Beauty’s Pride on June 6th via Yep Roc (Blitzen Trapper, The Sadies) . Today the band has announced the premiere of Beauty’s Pride—an introspective short film crafted as a cinematic companion to the record. The film will debut on YouTube on May 28 at 8 PM ET. The film is directed by Jared Raab, the award-winning cinematographer behind BlackBerry, Nirvanna the Band the Show, and The Dirties, and produced by Peter Dreimanis, acclaimed Canadian actor and musician, known most recently for his leading role in the feature film Sinners. The concept was developed collaboratively by Raab, Dreimanis, Leah Fay Goldstein (both of July Talk), and Born Ruffians.

Beauty’s Pride defies traditional genre boundaries, presenting itself as an experimental short documentary that fuses poetic visuals with philosophical reflection. Through a blend of archival footage from the band’s storied career—spanning stages, studios, and life on the road since 2008—and evocative scenes set in classrooms, laboratories, and everyday life, the film explores life’s biggest questions with warmth, curiosity, and imagination.

From the macroscopic wonders of nature to the quiet profundity of mundane moments, Beauty’s Pride is a meditation on time, creativity, and the human condition. It invites viewers to ask: Are our best years behind us—or still to come? Can music explain the mysteries of life, or is truth found in science? What defines beauty, and how does it shape our world?

The film follows band members Luke, Mitch, Steve, and Maddy as they navigate the evolving dynamics of artistry, identity, and legacy. Viewers are invited to contemplate the passage of time: Are the best years behind us, or do they lie ahead Can the essence of being alive be captured through words and music, or only through the pursuit of scientific understanding? And most profoundly: what is the nature of beauty, an how does it shape our perception of the world?

Whether riding a bicycle through a construction site or contemplating the cosmos, the film is a reminder of life’s infinite possibilities and the enduring power of imagination, friendship, and music.
