The Avalanches Share Video For “We Go On”
The Avalanches have released a new video for “We Go On.” The track features Cola Boyy and Mick Jones on vocals. Directors Jonathan Zawada and Michael Dole take viewers on a transcendental journey through a mystical Avalanche-esque streetscape in the new clip. The song is off The Avalanches’ current release We Will Always Love You.
Cola Boyy, aka Matthew Urango, is a nu-disco artist from Oxnard, California and, according to The Avalanches’ Robbie Chater, “is one of the most talented producers and writers around, as well as riotous good fun … having him on the same record as Mick Jones made so much sense to us.” But the latter is here not so much for his Clash rebel rocker history as Big Audio Dynamite, the first time that a young Chater encountered sampling. “One or two of their songs were big pop records on Australian radio – and it was that feeling, as a kid, of ‘how did they do that? What is that? It was sampling.’”
Samples are at the core of The Avalanches’ distinctive sound – their debut album Since I Left You combined over 3,500 vinyl samples, setting a precedent for dance music. Recalling that he first encountered sampling via Big Audio Dynamite, Chater says, “One or two of their songs were big pop records on Australian radio – and it was that feeling, as a kid, of ‘How did they do that? What is that?’ It was sampling.” “We Go On” interpolates and samples The Carpenters’ No. 1 Easy Listening hit “Hurting Each Other,” which was penned by G. Geld and P. Udell.
We Will Always Love You features MGMT, Rivers Cuomo, Denzel Curry, Johnny Marr, Neneh Cherry, Perry Farrell, Karen O , Mick Jones, Sampa the Great, Tricky, Kurt Vile, Blood Orange, and more.
