Primavera Sound Porto 2023 Shares Lineup
Primavera Sound Porto celebrates it’s tenth anniversary on June 7-10 in Porto. In it’s return to the Porto’s Parque da Cidade it will be possible to follow infinite sound paths from the eternal generational anthems of Blur, the transcendental hip-hop of Kendrick Lamar, the songs full of surprises by Rosalía, the Pet Shop Boys’ synth-pop feast, the soulful experimentation of FKA twigs, the pop particularities of The Beths , the post-hardcore of The Mars Volta, the magnetism of St. Vincent, the comeback of Le Tigre, and of course much more.
ONLY AT PRIMAVERA SOUND
Other highlights include Isabella Lovestory and The Comet Is Coming, Bad Religion and Baby Keem, Julia Holter and Núria Graham. From underground reggaeton to supersonic jazz, passing through hardcore that doesn’t neglect melodies, expansive rap, the new avant-garde and singer-songwriters. Where? Only at Primavera Sound, that musical limbo full of singularities where the reunited Karate, the digital boyband Drain Gang, Yves Tumor in full glam metamorphosis, the extra-terrestrial Sparks and alliances as exceptional as that of Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington in Darkside and that of Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge in NxWorries coexist. Strangeness becomes something familiar with Shellac as the best example of all this: the band that doesn’t perform at festivals will be back to play at Primavera Sound Porto.
During the four days in which the music will echo in the Parque da Cidade there will be time to reconnect with the past and even to imagine the future, but Primavera Sound Porto will once again, above all, be a true snapshot of the here and now. And it really is – the festival will present some of the most raved about records that have been released in this 2022 that is now coming to an end, from the return of Alvvays with the overflowing charm of Blue Rev to the confirmation of Fred again… as the electronic producer of the moment with Actual Life 3. Pusha T in a state of grace, the extravagant Jockstrap, The Beths and their melodies from the Antipodes, Caribou under his alias Daphni, Yard Act representing the latest post-punk wave and Gilla Band: all of them have marked this musical year and will mark the next edition of the Portuguese version of Primavera Sound.
No matter how many different definitions of the word “pop” you already have in your own musical dictionary: passing through the Parque da Cidade between 7th and 10th June will force you to expand it thanks to the new languages being built by Maggie Rogers, Bleachers, Japanese Breakfast, Arlo Parks, Holly Humberstone, Georgia, Self Esteem and flowerovlove, voices with their very own personal discourse with which it is impossible not to connect. Anglo-Saxon pop gets a little bit more powerful with each new step it takes, although Primavera Sound Porto 2023 will also look to other parts of the globe to continue shaping a plural festival in every sense with the help of the Dominican artist Tokischa, the Nigerian singer Rema and Mora from Puerto Rico.
ALL RHYTHMS
Consistent with its ambition to concentrate several line-ups in one, Primavera Sound Porto 2023 will also be a dancefloor on which to face new challenges and embrace hedonism without looking back… or both at the same time, of course. Because a tenth edition is only danced once in a lifetime: techno, house, acid, breakbeat, electro, jungle? All the rhythms imaginable, and more that we will discover thanks to Nick León, UNIIQU3, Teki Latex, Jayda G, Verraco, Gazzi, Chima Hiro and the b2b that VTSS and LSDXOXO will offer, fit into the club facet of Primavera Sound. A party that will revolve around some of the DJs and producers who make contemporary electronic music a better place.
VOSSA PRIMAVERA
Like all of Primavera Sound, Porto has part of its heart in sounds brought by local artists. In 2023, Portuguese will be heard in the Parque da Cidade via Deixem o Pimba em Paz, the show with which Bruno Nogueira and Manuela Azevedo revisit the popular song, serene R&B by Fumo Ninja and the jazzy voices of Margarida Campelo and Beatriz Pessoa, the latter bringing her Primaveras to Primavera. Also singing in Portuguese, but with an accent from the other side of the Atlantic, Terno Rei will arrive to display their indie pop with hints of saudade.
Primavera Sound Porto 2023 counts on the support of the Câmara Municipal do Porto: their commitment makes possible a new edition of the festival we believe in, both musically and in everything that surrounds it. Thank you for your trust in Primavera Sound.
