Lazerbeak Debuts New Single “River Wide”
Minneapolis electronic producer Lazerbeak has shared his new single “River Wide.” October 2nd, sees the release of the multi artist’s full-length, entitled Penelope, named after his eight-year-old daughter. Inspired largely by his new life as a family man and a recent deep dive into all things mindfulness, self wellness, and gratitude, Penelope thrives on ambient atmospherics, gentle melodies, and carefully-crafted percussion to create its own pulsing sonic universe. By exploring this quieter space, Lazerbeak has completed the long trek from beat-maker to producer, and Penelope represents a newfound peace and balance in a rapidly changing world. “River Wide” is the perfect new track, to chill to, and take a break from these eventful days.
Previously, Lazerbeak has collaborated with everyone from Lizzo (producing her entire debut album), Trampled By Turtles, mythological supergroup GAYNGS, and the Grammy-winning Minnesota Orchestra, while continuing to build and create with life-long comrades from his own Doomtree artist collective and notching production credits on everything from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton Mixtape to the dark electro pop of Banks’ III album.
Lazerbeak on “River Wide”
“River Wide” was actually the last piece of music that I created for this Penelope solo album. This record was made for my 8-year-old daughter and I wanted the music to reflect all the sunny, hopeful, fearless, and warm attributes that I see in her every day. My hope was to make a gigantic happy instrumental anthem for the days when things just don’t seem to be going right. The fact that the end result sort of sounds like a B-side from The Lion King soundtrack is definitely an unexpected bonus, haha. I hope it brings everyone a little bit of encouragement and light during this crazy year.”
