Sims has released his new single “Icarus”, the track is off his forthcoming release More Than Ever, available November 4th on Doomtree Records. When speaking about the song SIMS said, “This song is about feeling unstoppable, the chorus came to me while I was driving in my car listening to this Paper Tiger beat. It was one of those perfect Fall days, where the air is crisp and the sun is bright. I was thinking about how awesome life is, just driving around feeling excited. It was one of those moments where you are like the living embodiment of love. I wanted to make a distillation of that feeling, cuz I feel like shit a lot of the time. It’s about rising above all of the pettiness, and being daring enough to take a chance; to risk being safe to do something amazing. I called it ‘Icarus’ as a counterpoint to the cautionary tale. For everyone warning you to play safe, to not fly too high, I offer: We are all going to die. Might as well live boldly.”

Sims wrote More Than Ever last winter in the wake of some personally trying times: death and sickness in his immediate circle of friends and family. And he decided that the only acceptable answer to big loss is big joy—urgent, defiant, unapologetic joy. The thirteen tracks on More Than Ever capture Sims coming to, and living out, that conclusion.

Sims grew up in Minnesota, an active part of the busy and fiercely independent Minneapolis hip-hop scene. In high school, he made friends with the classmates that would eventually become his cohorts in Doomtree—the seven-member rap collective now responsible for some of this era’s most interesting, genre-defying releases. Over the past decade Sims has released a host of projects, both as a solo artist (Lights Out Paris, Bad Time Zoo, Wild Life EP, Field Notes) and as a member of Doomtree (No Kings, All Hands, and many others.) He’s toured the world from Pittsburgh to Prague, playing festivals like Glastonbury, Riot Fest, and SXSW.
