Jessy Lanza Debuts “Limbo” Video
Jessy Lanza releases new single “Limbo”, the track is off her forthcoming album Love Hallucinations available on July 28th via Hyperdub. Lanza is currently on a North American tour with Yaeji. “Limbo”, produced alongside Marco Niermeski, aka Tensnake builds directly from Jessy’s 2021 DJ Kicks. It follows the Tensnake single ‘Keep It Secret’ that Jessy guests on.
“The limbo video stars our neighbor Conrad who moonlights as a web-cammer for a living. He is the friendliest neighbor you could ask for. He always graciously takes care of our bins on trash day and is never not smiling cheek to cheek. He revealed that he sometimes uses an inversion table in his webcam sessions and it seemed like the perfect visualization of the themes in the song. I thought the idea of him performing and almost dancing with the inversion table would make for a beautiful video. We wanted Conrad’s performance to be a cross between Frank Booth from Blue Velvet and Jane Fonda Workout Videos. Jessy programmed the DJ lights and I set up my live visuals rig from the live shows to have on the TV. Conrad gave it his all and did 3 takes. On the 3rd take (the one that made the final cut) he was so engrossed in the song he threw out his back. We were concerned but he told us pain comes with the territory and he wouldn’t be happy with the video if he hadn’t risked it all like Tom Cruise doing his own stunts and scaling the Burj Khalifa. He truly gave his all. The last thing he said before he sauntered home was Jane Fonda’s famous catchphrase “No Pain No Gain”! We feel lucky to have a truly perfect neighbor.”
Jessy Lanza is a producer, vocalist and DJ from Hamilton, Canada who currently lives in LA. She has released three studio albums; Pull My Hair Back, Oh No and All the time on London’s respected Hyperdub label.
