Daniel Romano released a new video today for “I Had To Hide Your Poem (In A Song)” from his latest release Mosey. Self-directed and filmed on a trans-Atlantic ship after his European tour, the video captures Romano’s heart-rending storytelling and showcases the song’s prose. Romano, recently announced the addition of Nashville-based country songtress Caitlin Rose to Romano’s U.S. tour in select East Coast cities, which starts tonight in New York City at Mercury Lounge. Shows in Richmond, Nashville, Atlanta, Athens, and Asheville will follow.

Mosey released earlier this year: in “I Had To Hide Your Poem In A Song” Romano sings over a yearning psychedelic blues riff. The song contrasts nicely with the album’s first single “Valerie Leon,” which is a vibrant take on Lee Hazlewood-esque country psychedelia.

Mosey was self-produced and recorded in mono by Romano at his studio, The Navy, in Fenwick, Ontario, Canada throughout 2015. Aside from the piano, strings and horns that course through the album, he plays every instrument including guitar, bass, drums, organ and percussion and also arranged the orchestration himself. The vocal performances vary immensely song to song. “He had all the songs in his head. He set up the drums, we mic’d them and then I rolled the tape,” reveals engineer Kenneth Roy Meehan. “He played through the entire first pass of the record, which included something like 20 songs, without any music to reference in basically the amount of time it would take to listen to it. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
