“Fall Through” by Space Above

Indie electronic trio, Space Above, has premiered a brand new video for “Fall Through” and announced the upcoming release of full-length album, Still, coming on February 17, 2017.

Space Above is the side project of Aaron Short, the New Zealand artist best known as producer and keyboardist for The Naked and Famous. During a period of collective uncertainty among the members of The Naked and Famous, Short sought alternate means of expression. He collaborated with fellow kiwis Sam McCarthy (BOYBOY) and Maddie North (So Below) in an exploration of darker, electronic music. In the new project, Short strayed from pop structures and employed his passion for journey-focused music. Blending atmospheric melodies with intoxicating, electronic twists, Space Above creates an other-worldly soundscape.

Short described the songwriting process; “Fall Through’ was born out of a simple chord line, written a couple of years prior to the song actually coming together. It was one of those moments where you know you have something … but refuse to open the session until the right moment presents itself. One day I was playing with a beat, seeing how far I could slow the groove down before it fell over … Maddie caught onto the vibe of the track and wrote some of the darker lyrics the project had seen to date, but then contrasted them so nicely with melodies that drifted their way over the top.”

Jordan Blady, whose experience spans versatile artists including Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bayonne, Strange Babes, The Naked and Famous and more, directed the video. He explained the concept:
“The video for ‘Fall Through’ is concerned with relationships between the inhabitants of an alien world where the surroundings and denizens look completely familiar to us. Behaviors such as fear, relief and wonderment are experienced by the otherwise emotionless characters as they endure a crisis.”

Space Above will release ‘Still’ on February 17, 2017.
