Circuit des Yeux Covers Lucinda Williams
Sounds of Saving, in partnership with 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, reveal a new episode of their series “Song That Found Me At The Right Time.” They sat down with Circuit des Yeux (Haley Fohr) to discuss what Lucinda Williams’ “Fruits Of My Labor” means to her. Fohr says, “Lucinda Williams’ ‘Fruits of My Labor’ is a song that I’ve had with me for about 10 years. I first came upon it in 2013 when I was on tour opening for Julia Holter – it was a period in my career that had a lot of alone time and a lot of stillness. As a creative I find that these phases are necessary to live out a creative life, but they’re really hard and challenging. And as someone that deals with a neurodivergent brain and major depression, her lyrics and the sonic quality of the song was kind of just like a message and a really warm place for me at the time.” Sounds of Saving share, “We have long been fans of extraordinary experimental vocalist and composer Circuit des Yeux (Haley Fohr). She creates uniquely haunting and emotionally complex music that speaks to the range of human experience. Her 4-octave vocal range and captivating guitar playing creates exquisite arrangements and blends elements of the jazz, classical, and experimental music scenes she collaborates with often in her hometown Chicago. Shooting this gorgeous piece there with her was memorable, as the surreal quality of the dilapidated location within the pristine and severe snow perfectly matched her performance. Her music, born from a need to relieve darkness, is a testament to the therapeutic power of sound and aligns closely with our goals. We are honored to partner with her.”
Sounds of Saving created “Song That Found Me At The Right Time” to promote honest, intimate conversations about mental health and inspire action for those in need of support. SoS has produced over 20 videos and interviews with artists from multiple genres including conversations with Sharon Van Etten, keiyaA, Indigo Sparke, Allison Russell, CHAI, Madison McFerrin and Bartees Strange.
On March 1 Sounds of Saving, in conjunction with OFFAIR and Public Records, will present a sold-out event featuring Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/bassist Meshell Ndegeocello and singer/songwriter Nick Hakim, with DJ sets by Rahill. 100% of net proceeds from the evening will go towards the Sounds of Saving Therapy Grant program. Through the program, SoS covers costs for fans of specific artists to see culturally competent mental health professionals across the country for up to 12 therapy sessions. It is designed for those who are interested in treatment and who may have encountered barriers to care. It is the realization of the Sounds of Saving mission of using the common love of music as a pathway to mental health conversation, resources and treatment.
