“Body” Sinéad Harnett

singer/songwriter Sinéad Harnett has unveiled a sensual new video for her latest single “Body.” Shot on film in London by director Johny Mourgue, the video features Harnett singing against a blank backdrop which changes from black to red, to blue to pink. Incorporating sensuous minimalistic choreography, Sinéad pairs up with dancer, Tega Alexander, playing the object of her desire, both of them moving their bodies in time with the slow-simmering bassline. Speaking about the origin of the video, Harnett explains, “as soon as I finished the song I knew the video had to be shot on film. Something about film is so nostalgic, and when I wrote ‘Body’ I was looking back at all my memories within the relationship I was leaving. I wanted to use color to help paint the different layers of feelings and emotions I was going through at the time. Some conflicting, some bitter and some sweet.”

Out now via Rinse who have partnered US label Neon Gold Records (Christine & The Queens, Charli XCX, Tove Lo) in the US, the delicate and sultry song offers listeners the first taste of what’s to come in 2018.

“Body” was written by Sinéad and produced by GRADES (NAO, Tove Lo, Little Boots). Talking about the song, Sinéad explains “I was inspired by finding myself in a situation I wasn’t ready to leave, but that had to end. GRADES always seems to be around when something dramatic like that is going on. He started playing the ‘Body’ chords & the song came straight away. Conceptually it was a fantasy song but in reality it was a ‘goodbye’ song for me.”

Last year, Sinéad Harnett played her first headline shows in America, in Los Angeles and New York City and most recently at Smokin’ Grooves Festival in Long Beach, CA this past June.

Sinéad grew up in North London, raised by her Thai mum, who “always made sure I knew how important education was”. From the age of eight, she threw herself obsessively into singing, but while she’d happily perform in front of her friends for fun, she never revealed to them how seriously she was taking it. She went on to university, but singing became all-consuming, traveling back home to London every weekend to record. She put her music ideas up on YouTube, fully admitting “I still didn’t know what I was doing, I was just trying ideas out”, but one of these clips caught English rapper Wiley’s attention and he contacted her, giving her first opportunity, when she appeared on his 2011 track “Walk Away.”

Sinéad has featured on, and co-written releases from Wiley, Disclosure (“Boiling”) and Rudimental (“Baby”)—each of them a keystone in the infiltration of UK underground sounds into the global mainstream, as well as Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth (“No Other Way”). With new music coming soon, Sinéad Harnett plans to return to North American shores later this year.
