Anenon releases new video for "Pure"

Anenon has released a new video for “Pure” taken from the forthcoming release Tongue via Friends of Friends. It’s being released by Apple Music as part of an initiative he completed for them, and features dancer/artist Brittany Bailey in a ballet driven interpretive dance piece shot in various locations throughout LA. In the past, Bailey has worked closely with Marina Abramovic, Michael Clark, and Yvonne Rainer — huge figures in art and dance and I think the vibe of the video shines the right kind of light on where Brian takes things on the new album.

The album was recorded near the small town of Palaia in Italy’s Tuscany region, in a makeshift attic studio on a 16th Century Tuscan villa this past April. As America dealt with a dystopian spring, Brian Allen Simon decamped overseas to attempt to find something pure and ostensibly forgotten — something capable of reaching deep into our DNA coding. Hints of John Cage and Steve Reich suffuse his deft manipulation of space, time, tension, and mood. It’s many things — a jazz album, an electronic album, an ambient album, a modern classical album, an agnostic spiritual exploration.

The songs on Tongue are highly personal songs of acceptance constructed mostly from soprano saxophone, piano with synthesizer, and field recording embellishments weaving in and out. A rolling Tuscan landscape filtered through the lens of an Angeleno
