theMIND debuts “Mercury Rising” video
Several weeks ago Chicago-via-Philly artist theMIND emerged with his first solo material in the form of his song, “Mercury Rising”. Today, theMIND is introducing himself visually with a claymation music video directed by Brooklyn based artist and designer Kid Super. theMIND has been incubating in Chicago within the artist collective, THEMpeople. After featuring on songs with the likes of Chicago rappers Mick Jenkins and G Herbo, as well as Brooklyn’s Kirk Knight, theMIND is finally stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist. “Mercury Rising” is the first look into his world.
theMIND on Mercury Rising:
Mercury Rising is a song about changing your fate. I come from a city where you can barely see the stars at night, much less imagine yourself becoming one. Through this music, I am changing my fate. I made this song to inspire people to not only reach for the stars, but to fly among those stars.
The little girl in the video represents all of my sisters and the little boy represents me. We came from the impossible. Regardless of how high the odds are stacked against us in life, we can build makeshift spaceships to escape our circumstances. We build our spaceships with our hopes and dreams. Just like the spaceship in the video, sometimes in life things fall apart. In these moments its our human relationships that will save us. When things come crashing down we have to remember: we are magic, and together, we can fly.
