“sparky” by mui zyu Featuring lei, e
British Hong Kong London-based artist mui zyu shares “sparky,” the 3rd single to preview from her anticipated sophomore album, nothing or something to die for, out May, 24, 2024 via Father/Daughter Records.
“Sparky,” features lei, e (Emma Lee Moss formerly Emmy The Great), a musician and artist who mui zyu (aka Eva Liu) has looked up to for years, opened up for at some special shows and sung Cantonese covers with at the Hackney Chinese Community Centre.
The single’s accompanying visual features the central motif/character from the video to previous single “the mould” which was created by 3D artist and fellow Dama Scout member Danny Grant through toying with VR sculpting techniques.
On the track, Eva Liu shares: “”sparky” is a song about welcoming simple happinesses in to your world, even in the face of awfulness. it also plays with different ideas of what ‘happiness’ is, and observes the strange pursuit of endlessly chasing it, often looking in the wrong places, often at your own physical and mental expense. the song is named after the dog ‘Sparky’ from the opening of David Lynch’s ‘Blue Velvet’ who is the perfect image of joyfulness – biting water from a hose in front of their dead owner. a very big happiness for me though is having the amazing lei, e (Emma Lee Moss formerly Emmy The Great) feature on this song, a musician and artistic wonder i’ve looked up to for years. i’ve opened for her at some special shows and sung Cantonese covers together at the Hackney Chinese Community Centre.”
mui zyu has a strong upcoming UK festival run including performances at: The Great Escape, End of the Road, Manchester Psych Fest and more. She has also recently announced her first full UK headline tour for October
