S. Carey reveals ‘Supermoon’ EP, debuts Song
S. Carey will release a new vinyl and digital-only EP, Supermoon, on February 17, 2015 via Jagjaguwar. The EP offers reimagined versions of the Wisconsin-based singer/songwriter and Bon Iver-multi-instrumentalist’s two full-lengths, 2010’s All We Grow and 2014’s Range of Light, alongside the title track new song and a cover of Radiohead’s “Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was.” He premiered a first taste of the EP today in “Neverending Fountain (Alt. Version),” originally found on Range of Light, which can also now be streamed today.
The Supermoon EP, recorded during August 2014’s perigee-syzygy (a/k/a super moon), is a study in scale, space, and proximity. With the songs pared down to essential, acoustic parts, their beauty, intimacy, and potently personal nature are allowed to shine through in new and distinctive ways. Carey’s gentle, evocative vocals glide atop lilting yet percussive piano and subtle harmonic strings; his breath between words and the pat of his fingers on his family’s baby grand keys have been left audible. Inspired by nature, as with much of his work, and the excitement of on the spot song arrangements for various sessions while on tour, the Supermoon EP was laid to tape with the help of longtime friends and collaborators Zach Hanson (who engineered, mixed, and mastered) and Mike Noyce (who played viola). The EP is captivating and understated, adding a new chapter to the still-unfolding story of Sean Carey as an artist. A full track listing is below.
S. Carey will showcase the stripped-down artistry of the Supermoon EP throughout a series of intimate living room shows, presented by Undertow Music Collective, this February. The dates begin on February 5th in Des Moines, IA and wrap up on February 25th in Vancouver, BC.
