On An On premiere video for “Drifting”
ON AN ON will release their new album And The Wave Has Two Sides later this summer on Roll Call Records. The Minneapolis band gave a glimpse of what’s to come on the album last month when they unveiled the song “Drifting” ahead of SXSW. Now they’re back with a reveal of the album title and the music video for the song. Directed by Kyle Gibby and Nick Rush, the video for “Drifting” mirrors the description the band gave for the song last month as being “inspired by falling asleep behind the wheel and trying to forget unforgettable things.” The video is no less haunting than the picture that paints. The band are currently on tour with Big Data and further details about their forthcoming Joe Chiccarelli (Spoon, White Stripes, The Shins, My Morning Jacket) produced album will be revealed in the coming weeks.
When ON AN ON went into the studio in 2012 to make their debut LP, Give In, it was only weeks after the creation of the band, and everything felt new and open. They didn’t have any specific sonic goals. They only wanted to capture what it sounded like for ON AN ON to begin.
After a year and a half playing shows and festivals across the US and Europe, the band returned to Minneapolis to begin writing their sophomore album. Being on the road provided ON AN ON with time to examine how they wanted to expand and grow sonically, resulting in more collaborative writing and experimental live tracking. It was this approach that they brought with them when entering the studio with Chiccarelli.
