Marissa Nadler has shared the new single, “Poison” (featuring John Cale). The track is off her 2018 release For My Crimes (Sacred Bones/Bella Union). These songs mark one of the first one-off releases on KRO Records – the new label from producers/musicians Justin Raisen, Lawrence Rothman and Yves Rothman

“Lyrically, ‘Poison’ was written as a conversation between a couple—I hope it conjures a portrait of one of those intense moments of contemplation in a relationship that you never forget, forever frozen inside a snow globe. Musically, ‘Poison’ is stripped down to its most elemental form, and features a rare element for my work: completely dry vocals. I’m also proud of my guitar work here. When a recording is this sparse and bare, your playing cannot hide behind effects or layers of sounds—it had to be melodic and function as the spine of the song. ‘If We Make It Through The Summer,’ on the other hand, is a slow-core thickly produced, maudlin rocker.”

KRO Records is a multidisciplinary label distributed by the Orchard created by record producer musicians Justin Raisen, Lawrence Rothman, and Yves Rothman. They have worked with artists such as Kim Gordon, Angel Olsen, Yves Tumor, John Cale, Chari XCX and Sky Ferreira. The trio aims at bringing a more streamlined approach to record-making and releasing. Having over a decade of experience working in the music industry along with three recording studios stretching across LA (KroEast, KroCentral, & KroWest), the idea of having the same people sign, collaborate, produce, promote, and release music with great artists became one too obvious for Raisen and the Rothmans.
