Naomi Greene debuts video for “Laura”
A paris native, Naomi Greene now makes music in the city of angels AKA: Los Angeles. She writes to harp or guitar and sings poetic lyrics, unaffected and personal, with disarming directness. You may have already heard her on La Femme’s latest album “Mystère” or with the Coromandelles alongside members from Tijuana Panthers, Cold War Kids and The Shins. Today, she is premiering her new video for “Laura”
The song features background vocals by Clara Cappagli (of Agar Agar), and was mixed by Sonny Diperri (Animal Collective, Warpaint, Deradoorian). The music video was directed by Giovanna Gorassini and styled by Yiqing Yin.
Naomi Greene on the video for “Laura”
When I finished recording Laura, I knew I wanted to work with Giovanna Gorassini whose photography is really in line with the aesthetic of tragic heroines I was going for. She captures that delicate but powerful feel of myths, and that’s exactly what she brought to the table in directing this video. We shot in the woods outside Paris in the fall, James Coote filmed on 16mm film, and the dresses by designer Yiqing Yin completed the picture perfectly!
We wanted to make an abstract narrative around the theme of alter egos and letting go, and cast the beautiful and stormy Flora Mathieu as my shadow self. I’m so grateful for all the talented people that came together around this video.
