I Got Heaven

Mannequin Pussy

One of the things I search for when listening to a band is to find little moments in each song that feel special and surprising. And it’s no surprise that every song on this album fits that category. The energy and dynamics on this album are impressively cohesive and interesting with tracks that hit you at breakneck pace well others feel more like a traditional mid tempo indie rock track, that being said no matter what the vibe is of each song they all carry a weight in them and a strong energy throughout.

The track to start this all killer no filler record off is the absolute rager “I Got Heaven” and it opens up the record with a beautiful blend of high energy punk and introspective indie rock sounds.

Marisa Dabices absolutely fed up vocal performance takes over the track and has some of the best energy on the whole record. The second song “Loud Bark” builds up in dynamics beautifully and is textured with gorgeous production elements. It builds to be one of the most epic and exhilarating moments on the album and we’re only on the second track. “Nothing like” has a fun and euphoric sound that enters further into the indie rock world with still having some distorted guitars and big drum sounds. Marisa’s poetic voice sounds so expressive and one of a kind and it’s really cool to hear her expand even further on that with these kind of songs.

Next we have one of my favorite songs off the record “I don’t know you” which is definitely more of a chiller than the rest of the songs but still has the emotion on its sleeve and carries a beautiful energy throughout. The track is so good that you are like ok this album has been insane so far what’s next? Then it’s “Sometimes” like what the actual fuck this is so good. The absolute rager is already a classic in their discography and ties the record together very well.

The next track is the hardcore punk badassery of “OK?OK?OK?OK?”That supplies 2 minutes of fast changes and tight playing. “Softly” is another example of a band at one of their creative high points. The synths and guitars on this song have such an evolved sound compared to previous albums. The screams on this song are some of the most abrasive on the record but I honestly think it serves the song wonderfully.

Back to the thrash we go with the next two songs “Of her” an absolute pummeling display of their fury and then “Aching” which is undoubtedly one of the hardest songs on the whole album. When it dropped into the chorus the first time I don’t think I’ve ever headbanged that hard. I cannot wait to see this song live. The rhythm section shines on this song with so many different shots and changes.

The track to send us home is “Split me open” and it really feels like the best ending to an album like this. Beautiful, Heavy, Emotional. Once again I have to mention how emotive and expressive the The vocal performances are on this record other is no doubt in my mind that Marisa is one of the most talented and wide ranged singers out there today. This is not a record to miss, This record is important, this band is important, Go listen.
