Nick Hook is NYC’s waviest resident: an in-demand collaborator, producer extraordinaire, and all around provider of vibes who’s lent his touch to projects from Run The Jewels, Young Thug, Hudson Mohawke, and countless others, all while building a creative community around his studio thespacepit in Greenpoint. Now the red-headed kingpin steps forward with the first taste off his upcoming Relationships LP on Fool’s Gold out this Fall, a full album of collaborations that are unconventional, unexpected and all-the-way live (literally: each song was recorded in-person with Nick behind the boards, a refreshing move in the email verse era).

This tune was initially concepted at about 4am Oct 23 2014. 21 Savage was the last in the booth that night. He was hungry to rap. I remember I didn’t have any beats so I looped up “around the fur” by the Deftones and put a sub behind it. It sounded dope at the time and 21 went in and hit everything you hear really quick. 5 minutes max. That was the first time I had ever heard of him and he has that energy that flies out the speakers when you record it.
