“Do Your Worst” by Heaven For Real

Mint recording artists and twin brothers, Mark and J. Scott Grundy’s band Heaven For Real is sharing their new single, “Do Your Worst” which follows their recent single, “Slow Clap,” and the latest to be lifted from their new album, Energy Bar which is set for a September 16, release date. The new music comes on the heels of recent Canadian shows with the Fat Possum-signed Chicago group, Dehd, prior to this, Heaven For Real has performed in Japan and North America opening for Japanese Breakfast, Nap Eyes, No Joy, Luna Li, Mac DeMarco, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and more.

Recorded with Jonas Bonetta (Evening Hymns) at Port William Sound and mixed by Montreal’s René Wilson (Faith Healer), Energy Bar is a document of the band ten years in, signposting something that’s simultaneously dreamlike and alive. “The record is an analysis and an ode to the broader feelings of ‘potentiality’ – what could be, what things will mean, where things are going; the sense of wondering, questioning, attempts at growth and self-analysis and acceptance,” says Mark.

Speaking about the creation of the video, M. Grundy explains: “I’ve always thought that a video for this song should have a certain kind of “caper feel” and had been thinking of a way to do a giant scavenger hunt of a sort around the city. For the look, we started brainstorming with my friend Cotey about framing it around a band running with guitars along the coastline/performing like Everclear in the Santa Monica video and eventually Mark Corless and I talked about mixing a bunch of these non-sequitur ’80s and ’90s music video parody aesthetics with that ‘classic hijinks’ sort of plot-line. Thanks to Scott for being down to climb a sketchy fire escape and to our friends for guitar hero-ing beachside for hours in the heat.”

Heaven For Real is formed around the nucleus of the Grundy twins. Since 2012, the back-and-forth between Mark’s evocative lyric-driven songwriting and Scott’s musically expressive instincts has breathed a precious life into Heaven For Real. Completed by drummer Natan Doucet and synth player Cher Hann, the band soon became one of Halifax’s most exciting musical prospects, a position they solidified with 2016’s debut album Kill Your Memory and their recent EP, Sweet Rose Green Winter Desk Top Tell This Side Autumn Of The Fighter Hot In A Cool Way.
