“Déjà” by Wardrobe

Wardrobe, is the project of multi-artist Laurent Bourque, today he announces the release of his debut EP Common Touch, will drop on May 15th. Ahead of the album’s arrival, Wardrobe has shared “Déjà”— s track that explores the intoxicating mix of passion, fear, and existential longing. Co-written with Brendan Canning (of Broken Social Scene and producer/writer loser supreme. The song follows previous singles, “New Malaise,” and lead single “Better Days,” featuring Aquakultre.
“Brendan was the perfect person to help expand the world of Wardrobe,” says Wardrobe. “His indie rock sensibilities and effortless, ethereal lyricism helped uncover what would become the emotional core of “Déjà.””
The track began with a simple drum loop from loser supreme, evolving slowly into a slinky, mid-tempo near-ballad designed for late-night walks or confident solo struts through city streets. Anchored by a carefully crafted bassline—a product of hours spent in the studio—the rhythm section sets the tone, as it always does with Wardrobe.
“I wanted to write something that felt dangerous,” Wardrobe explains. “It’s a song about love, losing control, fear and desire. About being caught in a whirlwind of feelings for someone—or something—you know could be damaging in the long run.”
