“Crimson Red” By Always You
Always You is the Los Angeles duo comprised of Anton and Christoph Hochheim. Formerly known as Ablebody, the new project has shared their new single “Crimson Rose,” accompanied by video directed by Meriel O’Connell. The new single is off their forthcoming release Bloom Off The Rose, produced by Jerry Paper (aka Lucas Nathan), available via Shelflife/Discos de Kirlian on July 16, 2021. The brothers previously played in The Pains of Being Pure at Heart with Anton also a member of Beach Fossils.
Over the past few years, came changes, romance, discovery, and more. Bloom Off The Rose was written in Christoph’s apartment, and on the road with Jerry Paper, The Pains and Beach Fossils. The LP features bassist Jordan Sabolick with mixing/mastering provided by Kenny Gilmore (Weyes Blood, Julia Holter, Chris Cohen) and Josh Bonati (Mac Demarco, Wild Nothing, Slowdive). “The subject matter is life as vignettes,” Christoph describes, “Snapshots and stories of my relationships, mainly the one I’m just coming out of as viewed from different moments in our timeline, often projected imagined futures and mourning losses yet to come.”
Always You on the video for “Crimson Red”
“For the ‘Crimson Red’ video we recruited some of our friends who work as puppeteers at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater in LA, a sort of legendary puppet theater that’s been around since the 60s. We were going for a sort of surreal Top of the Pops style performance video, juxtaposed with a failed love story depicted by puppets. We were so fortunate to work with director Meriel O’Connell (along with production designers Sami Hollander and Marie Marchant) who all went above and beyond making sets and props and building out this insane world.”
