“Cold Reactor” By Everything Everything
Everything Everything have announced their new album Mountainhead, will drop on March 1st, 2024 via BMG. The band recently shared lead single “Cold Reactor.” The record fuses dystopian ‘Black Mirror’-style concepts with songs that blur the boundaries of experimentation and art-pop accessibility. Produced by the group’s own guitarist Alex Robert shaw and production partner Tom Fuller (aka Kaines and Tom A.D) across various parts of the UK over the past year.
Never ones to shy away from the topics that seem to be hurtling toward humanity like asteroids – from the deep-rooted socio-political issues that drive their Mercury Prize-nominated album A Fever Dream to the frightening rise of artificial intelligence that serves as the backbone to their most recent LP Raw Data Feel – Everything Everything find themselves once again grabbing the lightning rod on Mountainhead. Capitalism. Religion. #InternetCelebrity. The earth-eating constructs we endlessly build up in search of salvation, yet are never satiated by.
“In another world, society has built an immense mountain,” elaborates frontman Jonathan Higgs about the record. “To make the mountain bigger, they must make the hole they live in deeper and deeper. All of society is built around the creation of the mountain, and a mountain religion dominates all thought. At the top of the mountain is rumored to be a huge mirror that reflects endlessly recurring images of the self, and at the bottom of the pit is a giant golden snake that is the primal fear of all believers. A “Mountainhead” is one who believes the mountain must grow no matter the cost, and no matter how terrible it is to dwell in the great pit. The taller the mountain, the deeper the hole.”
