Everything Everything have returned with new single “The End of the Contender”. The UK group’s new single is off their album Mountainhead, which drops on March 1st, 2024 via BMG. The track is inspired by a mid-2010s viral road rage video: “Ronnie Pickering,” a man who ascended to (a very particular) type of online fame by insisting on his own significance and threatening a fight on-camera. “The End of the Contender” is a track that explores the strangely targetless aggression and delusions of grandeur that have seeped into the fabric of modern culture.

Mountainhead is described by the band as an album that melds ‘Black Mirror’-esque dystopia with experimental art-pop sonics – Mountainhead orbits around a singular allegory: an alternate society whose existence is dedicated to endlessly growing a mountain by digging deeper at its base — all in pursuit of a mythical mirror that sits atop its peak, while trying to escape a golden snake that dwells in the ever-increasing pit below.
