Christopher Owens, the former frontman of beloved indie rock band Girls, has announced his new solo album I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair, will drop on October 18th via True Panther Records (Girls, King Krule, Grace Ives). The announcement is accompanied by the new single “No Good,” paired with a live acoustic performance video directed by filmmaker Rebekah Sherman-Myntti.

Christopher Owens is no stranger to loss and hardship – in the years since his last release (2017’s Vante by Curls), he has faced a motorcycle accident that left him immobilised, battles with homelessness, and the passing of former Girls bandmate Chet “JR” White, right as the duo prepared to reunite in the studio. I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair is an album that captures both the lows of life and the celebration of its highs, one that Owens refers to as “a record about a journey back to the centre of myself”. As Owens underscores his enduring influence as a songwriter, he open-heartedly shares a renewed sense of purpose with his guitar. Owens co-produced the album in various San Francisco studios with longtime collaborator Doug Boehm (Girls, French Kicks, Twin Peaks) and all album photography was taken by longtime collaborator Sandy Kim.

Owens says of the themes and experiences that led to the creation of the album, “In the second half of the Bible, Jesus asks ‘What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?’ Lately I’ve found it interesting to ask it in a different way. ‘What shall it profit a man, if he lose his whole world, and gain back his soul?’ And I think the answer would have to be something like — The Kingdom of Heaven.”
