Singer/songwriter Allie Crow Buckley, has announced her debut full-length album, entitled Moonlit and Devious, will drop on March 12, 2021. The full-length follows 2019’s So Romantic EP, which led to tours supporting Jenny Lewis and Maggie Rogers. Moonlit and Devious was produced by Allie Crow Buckley in collaboration with Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley, Conor Oberst) and Mike Viola (Jenny Lewis, JS Ondara), and features contributions from Sharon Van Etten (who co-wrote “Gold Medallion”), guitarist Dylan Day (Nick Hakim, Ethan Gruska), and keyboard player Lee Pardini (Dawes, Cass McCombs).
With the announcement comes the single “Nothing Sacred” and an accompanying video directed by Alexis Zabe and Katherina Acevedo.
“This song was inspired by my experience in a mystical area of Italy, that was once inhabited by the Etruscans, an ancient civilization of earth worshippers,” shares Buckley, “It was a heavy and surreal place, with a distinct presence of spirit. There was an otherworldly feel, like a sort of wine dream, and these long winding pathways.” Adding, “Sonically that is what the song sounds like to me, you’re sort of spiraling down further and further into the earth by the end. We shot the video at a mysterious old oak tree. Alexis and Katherina really captured the personality and story of the song so well.”
Speaking of the video for the song, the directors say: “We heard the song and felt the duality as its underlying theme was something we wanted to explore visually, To embrace the duality that exists in all, and through that acceptance to heal our relationship with ourselves and by extension our relationship with nature, through ritual. We shot the video during the winter solstice.”
