“Wishes” By Tiny Habits
Tiny Habits includes singer/songwriters Maya Rae, Cinya Khan, and Judah Mayowa, the Boston trio release their debut album All For Something, on May 24 via Mom+Pop. Ahead of the LP’s arrival the band have shared the single “Wishes.” They call the track, “their most personal to date”. The band just wrapped their first-ever headlining North American tour which continues across Europe in May before making their Lollapalooza debut this summer.
The trio has built up a loyal following of fans and friends including fellow artists Kacey Musgraves, Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams, Phoebe Bridgers, Elton John, and the late great David Crosby. Produced by Tony Berg and Will Maclellan (Boygenius, Phoebe Bridgers).
Cinya writes “I came to the realization that my experience, while unique to me, was one shared by so many others.” Maya adds, “Writing my own verse to this already heart wrenching, emotional, and vulnerable song felt so cathartic and honestly, just so healing.” And Judah shares “This song was something my physical and spiritual being needed. It became such a crucial turning point in my songwriting. I only want to share honest art and never shy away from vulnerability.”
Tiny Habits were formed in Boston in 2022 while the band were still students at the Berklee College of Music. They soon began gaining recognition for the harmony-focused song covers recorded in their dorm stairwell and posted to millions of listeners on TikTok. They released their first EP of original songs Tiny Things in April 2023 and soon earned a spot opening for Gracie Abrams on her North American tour. Later that year they hit the road again supporting Noah Kahan in Europe. They have performed with Lizzy McAlpine on her Tiny Desk appearance, harmonized with Kacey Musgraves and Laufey among many others, and were recently profiled in The New Yorker which touted them “The Prodigies of Harmonies”.
Tiny Habits on “Wishes’:
Cinya:
“I remember starting this song and thinking it felt unoriginal. I felt like I had already written songs about wanting a different life or a different set of circumstances. But I came to the realization that my experience, while unique to me, was one shared by so many others. When Judah and Maya wrote their verses the song truly came to life. Shared honesty will always be original. And confessional songwriting can be the most potent of all.”
Maya:
“I remember when Cin played Wishes for the first time… I’ve never connected so much to a song. Writing my own verse to this already heart wrenching, emotional, and vulnerable song felt so cathartic and honestly, just so healing. To me, this feels like our most important statement as a band. It’s the most honest thing that has come out of the three of us as a unit. As scary as this was, it was a turning point for each of us. We’ve been waiting a long time to share this with the world, and I feel so incredibly excited and nervous for you all to listen ❤”
Judah:
“I remember immediately falling in love with Wishes the moment Cin brought it to us. When she asked Maya and I to write our own verses, I was unsure of sharing something so revealing. I truly thought I wasn’t going to be able to articulate feelings so vulnerable and personal to myself. But as soon as I sat down and began writing the emotions poured out of me and onto the paper. I couldn’t hold back. It was something my physical and spiritual being needed. This song became such a crucial turning point in my song writing. Now, I only want to create honest art and never want to shy away from vulnerability. I hope that this song helps the listener to find the motivation to be honest with themselves and the people they love. While we may feel isolated it is so important to remember you are not alone… and you are not a burden.”
