“There’s No Heaven” by Michi

Michi shares her new single “There’s No Heaven”, the second track off her debut album due in 2025 via Stones Throw. The accompanying video directed by Mitch deQuilettes (Childish Gambino, TOKiMONSTA) shows Michi at a house party in the hills of Northeast L.A., realizing she’s not as alone as she feels.

Speaking on the single Michi shares, “This song feels like a burst of aqua blue, a sweaty dancefloor, ice dripping down your skin, tears…” She recorded the vocals late at night in a studio in Joshua Tree, and remembers, “I immediately felt like this song was one of admiring your lover at a party, on the dancefloor, passing each other in the hall of a party – so much tension and mesmerization.” As with Michi’s first song for Stones Throw, “If You Want Me,” “There’s No Heaven” was produced by Blake Rhein (of Durand Jones & the Indications) and Paul Cherry.

In 2023, Michi moved from LA to a small seaside town, where she was able to grow into herself and land on a sound that felt authentic to her and the stories she wanted to tell. “If You Want Me” and “There’s No Heaven” mark a move away from the pop leanings of Michi’s earlier singles and EPs to a warmer, more soulful sound.
