“Sweet Anecdote” by Sea Lemon
Sea Lemon shares the single “Sweet Anecdote,” the Seattle’s artist’s track is now out via Luminelle Recordings, and is the follow up to “Crystals,” where Lew collaborated with Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. “Sweet Anecdote” came to life during a burst of energy in the studio, and thrums with spontaneity. “God I was so / Sure when I saw / You in your car / Such a sweet anecdote,” Lew sings on the chorus, over a bed of warm guitars and synth bloops. An ode to lust and parasocial voyeurism in the modern age, it’s as eerie as it is serene.
On the track, Lew shares: “‘Sweet Anecdote,’ of all of my songs up until this point, was the shortest song to come from nothing to finished. I worked on it in my producer Andy’s studio, first with the underlying guitar and then with synths, quickly building the architecture of the song in an hour or so. Immediately after identifying the sort of eerie melodic structure of the song, I felt really compelled to write lyrics about being in love to the point of obsession. The internet as a whole contributes to my feeling that I know too much about people, and I wanted to lean into the darker and more sinister sides of that with this song, as the narrator firmly believes the person they are watching is ‘the one.’ I love art (movies, music, books) that is unsettling—not overwhelmingly scary or horrifying—and Sweet Anecdote is meant to be an unsettling song in both melody and lyrics that I’m excited to share.”
