Double Wish, has shared new single, “Soft Skin”. the song is off their forthcoming EP, Deeper Ecstasy, available on February 28th via Hit the North Records (Joyer, Nisa).

“Soft Skin” is a song about that electric, almost surreal feeling when you first connect with someone. When everything crackles with potential, when the air between you feels charged with this kind of unspoken energy. It’s an intimate spark, raw and undeniable. It’s this essence that “Soft Skin” tries to capture – that rush, that immediate pull.

Speaking about the track, Sabolick says: “It was most written in a single day with Casey (Cold War Kids, Moira Dela Torre), but for some reason, it just… sat there, like a thought left unfinished. When we finally returned to it, we were drawn to this phrase, “pop-gaze” and the song started to come to life in a new way. There’s definitely a bit of The Cure woven through it. When we first wrote it, we had just picked up a Vibe VI for the studio, and this was one of the first things we wrote with it. It felt like Robert Smith’s aura was hovering around us. The low end of the track is carried by a Juno synth, adding this layer of melancholy warmth – kind of dark but nostalgic, like the feeling of a memory fading in and out of focus. It’s the thing that holds everything together, this constant, low hum.”

“The drums carry this restless, almost drum-machine-like quality. They keep things grounded, bringing a sense of motion and urgency to all the synth drones and atmospheric layers. Then there’s that final crescendo – a fuzzed spaced-out guitar riff that bursts through, like the raw electricity that first sparked the song. It’s almost as if the whole thing builds up to this sudden, explosive moment of clarity.”

Double Wish celebrates the creative alchemy of childhood friends, Adam Sabolick and Philippe Andre. Based in Orange County, California the duo has spent the last couple of years defining their dark-sunshine-pop sound which weaves together the dream-pop sensibilities of The Cure and The Sundays with the fuzzier shoegaze sounds of DIIV, Whirr, Deerhunter and Beach Fossils.

Another big influence for Sabolick and Andre this year was Laraaji’s “I Can Only Biss Out (F’Days)” and this comes to the surface on EP closer, “25 Clovers”. There’s a certain fluidity to Laraaji’s track; a sense of time stretching and warping that they aspired to bring into their sound. “The drums are kind of wild in “25 Clovers” – there’s this pulsating hi-hat groove that runs through most of the song, creating a sense of forward motion, like the beat is chasing itself. And then, at the end, everything starts to open up creating this delayed, almost fragmented rhythm. It’s like the song starts to unravel a little, but in a way that feels expansive rather than chaotic.”
