Sampa The Great debuts new single “Freedom”
Sampa The Great, has shared the new single “Freedom,” the single is lifted from her forthcoming debut album The Return, out September 13th on Ninja Tune.
From Sampa The Great:
“‘Freedom’ is about one of the most important talks you will ever have as an artist in this industry.” explains Sampa, “The balance of earning a living and expressing your artistry, and what you’re willing to compromise through it all. It’s a blessing being able to create and express yourself through the arts and an even greater blessing when that artistry can provide a livelihood for you, but it’s likely you’ll reach a point in your career where you’ll be given a choice to compromise your artistic expression. How much you’re willing to compromise is a conversation discussed in Freedom.”
Sampa enlisted many peers on the album, which was Mixed by Jonwayne (of Stones Throw), MsM (Skepta/Boy Better Know) and Andrei Eremin (GRAMMY-nominated engineer for Hiatus Kaiyote and Chet Faker), with production by Silentjay, Slowthai producer Kwes Darko, Clever Austin (Perrin Moss of Hiatus Kiayote), Blue Lab Beats and Syreniscreamy. Sampa has toured and toured globally, supporting the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Thundercat, Joey Bada$$, Hiatus Kaiyote, Noname, Ibeyi and Little Simz.
