RZA & Faulkner Write “NY Anthem”
RZA, founder of the Wu-Tang Clan and rock band Faulkner release exclusive video for “NY Anthem” on July 16, co-written and produced by RZA at Rick Rubin’s Shangri La studio.
A lot has changed since the bi-coastal band Faulkner formed a year ago in Venice, CA. On the strength of their online demo “I’m Stoned,” the band attracted the attention of producers Mark Needham (The Killers,) and JP Bowersock (The Strokes) to begin work on their debut album.
Near the end of the sessions that became known as “Street Axioms,” Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA heard a live demo of their song “NY Anthem.”
The celebrated producer responded so positively to the track that he offered to collaborate.
Rick Rubin’s Shangri La studio provided space for the new collaboration to thrive. Artists such as Kanye West, Adele & Eminem have recently recorded chart topping hits at Shangri La. Lucas Asher of Faulkner stated “I grew up listening to RZA and was thrilled he mentioned Wu-Tang Clan in his verse.”
The Hollywood reporter revealed earlier in the year “Faulkner is the first group to publicly join creative forces with RZA in the run up to the 20th anniversary album, A Better Tomorrow.“
“NY Anthem” utilized new micro drone technology from 3D Robotics to capture sweeping New York footage. MIT drone expert Missy Cummings said “It’s a novelty now, but I think it will become more of a mainstay.” The FAA Modernization and Reform Act estimates that 30,000 drones are expected to be in the Nation’s skies by 2020.
