“Running Wild” by Vök
Vök have shared their experimental and atmospheric new track Running Wild alongside the release of their new 4-track EP Feeding on a Tragedy via Nettwerk Records. The new single follows recently released singles No Coffee at the Funeral, Skin and Lost in the Weekend, all of which make up the band’s new EP Feeding on a Tragedy. Recorded in their Reykjavík studios, the EP is the follow-up to their acclaimed 2019 album In the Dark, which was written and recorded by the band in collaboration with producer James Earp (Bipolar Sunshine, Fickle Friends, Lewis Capaldi).
Running Wild is a pensive and open song, which is lyrically about not being able to express who you really want to be, set against an experimental and atmospheric soundscape of smooth synths and alternative beats. Lead singer Margret says;
“This was written like a short story set in the wild west. However, the “wild west” in this case is actually a small town in Iceland, called Akranes, where I spent a large portion of my childhood and coming-of-age years. When I was growing up, Akranes felt like no place for outcasts and this song was inspired by my experience living there. When I became a teenager, I felt like I was choking by the narrow tunnel-visioned mindset of the town, and I felt I had to get away. So, I did. I hope this song inspires others to not let anyone get in the way of their true happiness. All of us should be running wild.”
