After a whirlwind of hype and excitement around Chanel Beads’ debut album, Your Day Will Come, they packed out the Wise Hall in Vancouver with excited fans for a night of great music. Chanel Beads put on an amazing set of their meditative yet energetic songs from their latest album. While the bulk of the set was filled with songs off the album, there were a couple of seemingly unreleased songs and spacious instrumental passages throughout the show.

Performing in front of backlit blue lighting, the Band had a unique stage presence with a strong presence from frontman Shane Lavers as he paced around the stage, occasionally hitting his head and holding up the mic stand chaotically. Within all of the high-energy antics, he performed and sang beautifully, letting out random screams throughout the song to increase his frenetic spontaneity.

The Band walked on stage and said, “We’re going to warm up a bit,” and launched into a tension-building instrumental piece, seeing Lavers play pretty melodies on his electric clarinet, meshing with the gorgeously modulated guitar playing from Maya McGrory and Zachary Paul’s electric violin. After the jam, the Band introduced the first song, “I Think I Saw” which is the album closer to Your Day Will Come and one of the most interesting songs off the record.

As the set went on, they played all of the hits off the record, such as “Police Scanner,” “Unifying Thought,” and the brilliant single “True Altruism,” to close things off. After a tight 45-minute set, the Band left the stage, and the audience shouted for an encore. After a couple of minutes, with no sign of the Band returning on stage, the crowd started to weed out and leave the venue. It was an unbelievable night of inventive and entertaining live music from Chanel Beads that left an inspiring impression on the crowd.
