Psychedelic Post-Punks Sunglaciers Announce Third Album “Regular Nature”
Sunglaciers’ music blurs the boundaries between polished melodicism and opaque experimentation, auspicious romanticism and unbridled dissent. Though anchored in the strange realities of our times, their songs are laced with a certain optimism through well-calculated psych elements and vibrant rhythms, making for a unique strand of kaleidoscopic proto-pop. Following up on critically-acclaimed full-length efforts Foreign Bodies and Subterranea, the Calgary outfit now returns with Regular Nature, out March 29th, 2024 via Mothland.
In anticipation of their forthcoming long-player, Sunglaciers unveil lead single “Cursed”, a nostalgic epic about love passing you by that features a motorik rhythm section, cascading synthesizers and hazy vocal harmonies. Also accompanied by a sumptuous music video directed by lead singer Evan Resnik, this therapeutic musical essay about what-if’s offers solace in the form of cleverly subdued psychedelia with a hint of hypnagogic pop. A must-listen for fans of dreamy indie gem purveyors à la Beach House, Unknown Mortal Orchestra or Diiv, “Cursed” drops today!
Speaking about the track they say:
“Cursed” is quite probably Sunglaciers’ biggest downer to date. It is a piece about shattered, unsaid expectations, and reflecting on the reality of a situation after it has passed, and all that remains is its memory. It is a slow dance between regret and acceptance, a song about lost love and lost potential. It is being caught in a moment, blinded by short-term desires, only to wake up on the other side when everything has passed and it is too late to reconcile (“You wish your head could unremember this/ But memory is all there ever is”).
