“Pell” Yann Tiersen

Yann Tiersen, will release his new album ALL, February 15th on Mute. Ahead of the release, Tiersen has shared a video for “Pell.” “Pell.” The single follows the release of previous tracks “Tempelhof” and “Koad”.  On “Pell,” which was written as a lullaby for his son, Tiersen highlights one of the major themes on the album – our connection to nature. He says, “We wanted to explain this island to him, living in this great community with all this nature. ‘Pell’ means ‘far’ and people might say we’re disconnected from civilization but I think it’s the opposite.”

All was mixed and produced by Tiersen and Gareth Jones, ALL incorporates recordings from Brittany, as well as those taken in a forest of redwood trees in Devon, England and at Berlin’s decommissioned Tempelhof airport. For “Usal Road,” Tiersen returned to a particularly significant spot in California (Usal Road, situated on the Lost Coast) to record violin. This place holds symbolic meaning to Tiersen after he was chased by a mountain lion there in 2014, an event which triggered a renewed and deeper connection to nature and specifically our humble place within it.

Predominately sung in the Breton language, the album features several guest vocalists: Anna von Hausswolff, who released Dead Magic last year is the guest vocalist on “Koad” while Ólavur Jákupsson collaborates on “Erc’h” and Breton singer-songwriters Denez Prigent (“Gwennilied”), Emilie Tiersen and Gaëlle Kerrien all feature on the album.
