PEGGY SUE share new track “Say What You Mean”
Ahead of their upcoming special one-off London show at the Bussey Building on Nov 2nd, Peggy Sue reveal brand new track ‘Say What You Mean’. The band are set to release their double A-side single “Substitue”/”Say What You Mean” on Nov 3rd via Wichita Recordings.
‘Say What You Mean’ was recorded at Rockfield during the Choir of Echoes sessions.
A song about about crushes and ambiguity, it narrates those frustrating and perfect days when you take the long way home just to carry on talking to the object of your desire. From it’s opening bed of harmonised “doo-doo-doos” as heard through an AM radio to its ecstatic chorus ‘Say What You Mean’evolves from a whisper to a shout to a call to arms. A heady mix of 50’s inspired backing vocals, Olly’s characteristic rhythms and some of Rosa and Katy’s heaviest guitar sounds so far.
The day before the single is released, on Nov 2nd, the band headline a very special show at The Bussey Building in Peckham as part of the Illuminations festival. This show will see them perform with The Choir of Echoes – featuring members of all-girl covers choir Deep Throat – allowing them to explore the melodies and harmonies of their third album like never before. The event will also see a live improvisation set from rising production wizard Cosmo Sheldrake and a full performance from Deep Throat. There will also be a reading by Monument Valley and Jesca Hoop has just been announced to play a special solo set.
‘Choir of Echoes’ is an album about singing. About losing your voice and finding it again” they explain. “Voices keeping each other company and voices competing for space. The call and response of the kindest and the cruelest words. Choruses. Duets. Whispers and shouts.”
