“on the mend” by little bit
he project of Boston-raised Hannah Liuzzo (formerly of Lilith) recently shared “on the mend,” a track off her forthcoming debut EP, talk a blue streak, Out September 20 via Hit the North Records. talk a blue streak EP was produced by Bradford Krieger who previously worked with Joyer on their 2024 record, Night Songs, as well as Squirrel Flower, Horse Jumper of Love and Model/Acrtriz.
Speaking about the new single, Liuzzo says: “The lyric “I hope I catch you on the mend” is a sort of mantra I used at the time to help myself learn to softly let go. My instinct if someone hurt me used to be to default to anger or resentment, but as I’ve evolved and cultivated better access to my own feelings, I learned it’s better to wish people well instead of holding negative feelings. That state of mind is idealistic, though, so there’s still a tinge of side-eye in on the mend. Sometimes wishing someone well is a performance to help yourself heal, sometimes it’s a performance to save face while you’re scheming on the inside.”
talk a blue streak is something of a celebration of the cathartic release that comes with being honest and not holding back. Liuzzo wrote this EP when she was in the throes of feeling like she was an emotional burden, “when I felt that my feelings were ‘too much’, feeling embarrassed that I was ‘too needy’ or ‘too soft’.” It’s about giving in to your gut instinct that tells you to reply, that tells you to speak up, that tells you let go, that tells you to leave things uncomfortable or messy if that feels right to you.
Liuzzo has toured and performed with the likes of Frankie Cosmos, Xiu Xiu, Chastity Belt, Snail Mail, The Hold Steady, Porches, Horse Jumper of Love, Slaughter Beach Dog, Pom Pom Squad, Fiddlehead, Diet Cig, Squirrel Flower, Lomelda, and more.
