“Melt Me” by Uncle Junior

Uncle Junior have shared their debut single “Melt Me”. The track was recorded in rural France, and is their first as a trio, with song’s lyrics point to the unnerving world of dating apps. currently the UK band are on tour with Man/Woman/Chainsaw, followed by a run of dates with Tooth. The band have also played shows with Sorry, Adult DVD and more. Uncle Junior includes Oli Noble, Eric Rye Lees, and Isaac West.
Speaking on the single, the band says, “‘Melt Me’ utilises a more traditional four chord verse chorus verse structure with melodies and harmonies that at the time were out of our songwriting comfort zones. The lyrics are a look into the way that one holds memories of lost time and how this affects your self-image.”
Uncle Junior have been playing music since they were kids. West started playing drums when he was eight. A few years later, Noble, who lived in the same small town in Hampshire, took notice of his impressive skills and they began their first band. “Drummers are really hard to come by, and at least my memory of Isaac’s drumming at age 12 was that it was really incredible,” Noble says. Prior to the band, they played in a group called Scumbag that performed Black Flag ripoffs and hardcore punk. It was “fucking hilarious,” West remembers.
They’ve been making music together ever since, developing their craft side by side. Years of playing together have shaped how they understand music and each other. Noble says he understands the “humanity” in West’s drumming, while West says Noble’s guitar playing has changed the way he approaches the drums, and even how he thinks about writing songs.
Rye Lees, who grew up in the small town next door and met West and Noble through mutual friends, joined the group last summer. For Rye Lees, joining Uncle Junior meant watching Noble and West from the crowd to standing beside them onstage. “It was quite funny going from being at every show in the crowd and then playing,” he says. Rye Lees grew up playing rock music as a kid but took a detour into classical music. “I wanted to be in the Berlin Philharmonic for a long time, but that dream died when I realized I had to practice,” he laughs.
