Last June, songwriter and guitarist Bedouine released her self-titled debut album via Spacebomb Records. Bedouine toured the US alongside Fleet Foxes and Willie Watson, ending with a string of headline dates including a sold-out show at New York City’s Joe’s Pub (“she sounds like a future legend — the sort of musician one will later wish to have seen back when, at a small performance like this Thursday-night show.” –New York Times).

Following the release of the album Bedouine is releasing a special deluxe edition which features two new tracks including “Louise” sung entirely in Armenian and “Deep Space,” out today, December 1st via Spacebomb Records.

“’Louise’ is a song about conviction. The impetus was pondering the difficult decision a family makes during wartime, to stay or to leave and seek refuge. I caught myself being a critic of people that were risking their lives to stay home but the more I thought about it the more I sympathized and even wondered if I would make a similar decision.”

Azniv Korkejian

Bedouine has a story to match the name. Azniv Korkejian, born in Aleppo, Syria to Armenian parents, spent her childhood in Saudi Arabia, moving to America when her family won a Green Card lottery. Living at various times in Boston, Houston, Lexington, Austin, and Savannah, she eventually found a community of musicians in Los Angeles that feels like home. Eschewing notions of nomadic chic, Bedouine represents minimalism motivated by travel, paring down and paring down until only the essential remains. Her music establishes a sustained and complete mood, reflecting on the unending reverberations of displacement, unafraid to take pleasure along the way.
