Julia Holter Reveals “Goddess Eyes II” Video + Expanded Release of Ekstasis on RVNG
Julia Holter and director Yelena Zhelezov have collaborated once again in video form. Having previously worked together on the video for “Moni Mon Amie” from Holter’s 2012 album Ekstasis, the two Los Angeles-based artists (and friends) constructed a landscape over which Holter’s all-seeing eye purveys the predictable events turned inexplicably preposterous.
“The video for Julia’s ‘Goddess Eyes II’ is inspired by the Latin phrase ‘deus ex machine,'”
says Zhelezov. “In theater, deus ex machina is plot device for seemingly unresolvable
dramaturgical situations. The video is in tribute to Euripides and the literary spirit of the song that the video was conceived and directed.”
On December 11th, 2012, RVNG Intl. will release Ekstasis (Expanded). In addition to the original ten songs of Ekstasis, the digital album will include Live From Beaudry, a set of five songs Holter recorded with cellist Heather McIntosh (Gnarls Barkley’s touring bassist, Animal Collective collaborator) earlier in the year.
Holter’s stripped back cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman” Rumours Revisted
compilation (also featuring Liars, Yeasayer, and others) surfaced this week. Listen via Holter’s Soundcloud.
Holter will collaborate with New York artists Laurel Halo and Daniel Wohl on February 25th, 2013 for the Ecstatic Music Festival’s two months of programming at the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center in New York City beginning January 25th. Before that, Holter will embark on a ten day Australian tour with the trusted Ekstasis trio including Christopher Votek and Corey Fogel. Complete dates below.
