“Hold Fast” Terrace
Indie/electronica dance band Terrace, have released their new single “Hold Fast”. The track is off of their release Criterion, which arrived this sumer. Frontman Simon Lock describes the song as a “A muffed beat blend that takes the listener on a journey into an awakening of hope and enlightenment when the chorus is revealed. Rooted from a bad dream, the songs drudges up feelings of trying to breathe whilst treading water and persevere, hopeful that things will get better.”
In verse one, we hear the voice of clarity singing “Hold on is what you’re saying, good things come because we’re waiting. Wish I could see that far away, and these dreams I can never explain.” A personal account of the writers experience and pain through the unconscious. Verse two is a similar sentiment with the deepening of the lyrics. “And they seem so close in view, somehow I have to make them new.” Sung by Maddy Brown, the sound is powerful and direct while sinking into vulnerable places. Terrace seems to be shining a spotlight on the demons in the rearview mirror and desperately trying to make a perspective shift on how to defeat the memories.
The chorus shows more promise as the duo shine, singing “These things inside, they rule your life. So take it far, and prove you’re alive”. A glimmer of hope for our demons yet.

LYRICS
HOLD ON
“IS WHAT YOU’RE SAYING
GOOD THINGS COME BECAUSE WE’RE WAITING
WISH I COULD SEE THAT FAR AWAY
AND THESE DREAMS I CAN NEVER EXPLAIN
WHAT IT MEANS TO ME
THESE THINGS I’VE SEEN
MY LIFE TO LEAD
WHAT IT MEANS TO ME
THESE THINGS INSIDE RULE YOUR LIFE
SO TAKE IT FAR, PROVE YOU’RE ALIVE
HOLD FAST, IT’S ALWAYS TAUNTING
THOSE DREAMS WILL ALWAYS HAUNT ME
AND THEY SEEM SO CLOSE IN VIEW
SOMEHOW I HAVE TO MAKE THEM NEW
WHAT IT MEANS TO ME
THESE THINGS I’VE SEEN
MY LIFE TO LEAD
WHAT IT MEANS TO ME
