girl in red Covers Maggie Rogers “Say It”
girl in red, is the first artist to release a track as a part of Spotify’s Studio Oyster, a new initiative as part of the genre-bending Oyster playlist. girl in red chose to cover one of her favorite songs “Say It,” by Maggie Rogers.
girl in red on “Say It:”
“Say it’ describes a situation I recently found myself in, when I was unable to write. When the words finally came to me I felt incredibly grateful and it helped me understand my feelings.” says Marie Ulvén (girl in red). “I’m stoked to be a part of the new studio concept and to have gotten the opportunity to record the track in Spotify’s studio. The possibilities to be creative in there is something I really took advantage of and it turned the song into what it is today.”
Inspired by Marie’s own trials and tribulations with mental health and sexuality, her music and her character are equal in their honesty and authenticity. Maintaining a direct and regular relationship with her fans, Marie’s self deprivation and openness is brilliantly, though unintentionally, placed to de-escalate and encourage sensitive and relevant conversations with her fan base. From beginning in her bedroom teaching herself to play the guitar and piano and to produce her own music, in less than a year the project has grown exponentially through her social media channels; with her first album in the works, girl in red is poised to be one of the most important debut releases.
girl in red has contributed to the soundtrack for the film The Turning. Her song “kate’s not here” is an electrifying addition to the (mostly female) compilation featuring Courtney Love, Soccer Mommy, Empress Of, Mitski, Kim Gordon, Alice Glass, Warpaint, Vagabon, Cherry Glazerr, Alison Mosshart, Sunflower Bean, and more.
