“Future Trash” by screensaver
screensaver share “Future Trash,” the third single from their forthcoming new album Decent Shapes. The track hones in on humanity’s quest to produce materials to move the modern age forward and the resulting future trash we’ve been creating and continue to create.
For the past century, humans have been producing and touting new products, guaranteed to outperform all other competitors, which ends up as trash that goes to landfill. The track itself conveys a frantic energy that captures the speed and intensity at which we’re hurtling towards global climate crisis if we don’t start to do something about it now.
Of the track, screensaver’s Krystal Maynard says, “The lyrical content for “Future Trash” was inspired by a throwaway name for the original demo. Our drummer James called the song “nylon,” which set me on a path thinking about the fabric created in the 1930s and in turn got me thinking about all these other materials we’ve created over the last century that are completely unsustainable. Advertising companies present these products like essential items for modern living but really it’s just trash: your new fast fashion purchase or tech gadget or cheap Kmart homeware item is just future trash.”
