The four songs on NYC artist Falty DL’s Atlantis EP carry virtually flawless relation. Street savvy tunes— unique as they are cohesive as an EP— exist in tune with many past gems of the Ninja catalogue. This comes post high praise for the artist (a.k.a. Drew Cyrus Lustman)’s recent Planet Mu released LP You Stand Uncertain.

Title-track and album opener “Atlantis” wreaks near perfection in 5 and half minutes of music. Deep tribal sounds and pretty melodic structures glide over dubby bass and percussion; the music loops changeably and intriguingly throughout the whole song.

“Can’t Stop The Prophet” successfully layers variety of samples like antique angelic violins and vocals from 1999 trance track “Turn It Around” by Alena set to sound more darkly depressing than the original (“It’s getting insane I know/ Let it not be true”). The song builds with aligned audio of percussion and train-like organ sounds before some heavy-hitting chilled-out dnb.

Third song “My Light, My Love” sounds both simple and complex. The song comes off quite calming but when
one listens close you can hear the depth of production here is nothing basic.

Last song “The Sale Ends” transcends previously established expectations of drum n bass creating a very cool journey. Analog instruments meet digital drums with bass brought both expertly and subtly.
