“eye2eye” by Huxlii

Huxlii’s latest single “eye2eye”, was” Originally envisioned as a duet between past and future selves, it captures a sense of longing and uncertainty through lofi textures and soaring vocals. The water imagery in the lyrics mirrors the visualizer, featuring Huxlii and her sister on the beach in a series of looping tableaus. “eye2eye” is off Huxlii’s forthcoming album odds and ends, But Mostly Ends , available January 17 via Majesticsilk (Michael Rault).

Huxlii shares: “”eye2eye” is the first ballad type song I’ve ever written. I was very inspired by lofi sounds like the omnichord, and wrote this song using an omnichord simulation app on my iPad. When I was writing it, I was experimenting with creating imagery and a narrative for a song that I could base lyrics off of. The backstory is a bit convoluted, however, it’s about two characters meeting on a beach at sunset. One is a past self and the other a future self and the verses are meant to operate as a duet. Although this backstory probably isn’t fully apparent on the surface, I think the world building trickles through, with constant references to water and an overall melodramatic tone. The song almost operates as an artefact of the imagery I was inspired by.”

Huxlii began exploring songwriting and DIY production using GarageBand as a teen. These bedroom-style recordings mesh electronic drums, harmonies, and punk-inspired songwriting. With her upcoming EP, “odds and ends, but mostly ends,” she is fleshing out her sound with studio recordings for the first time while still honouring her lofi roots.
