@ Debut New Single “Webcrawler”
Last December, @ (pronounced “At”) announced their new album Are You There God? It’s Me. The EP which drops on February 16th is the follow up to their debut Mind Palace Music, which was released via Carpark Records (The Beths, Ducks Ltd.) in early 2023. The duo, comprised Victoria Rose and Stone Filipczak announced the EP with a track called “Soul Hole.” Accompanied by a video created by cult comedian Devon Voelkel. Today, ahead of Friday’s release day, the band are sharing a second single from the EP, a track called “Webcrawler”. Following the EP’s release @ will be making the UK/EU debut with a full tour that includes dates with Speedy Ortiz.
“The lyrics to ‘Webcrawler’ is highly influenced by computer programming and the process of automated tools (which can be conceived of as invisible robots) scraping data from websites, also known as crawling the web,” Filipczak explains. “The protagonist of the song is a search engine which has gone sentient, conceives of itself as a spider, and feels lonely because of its lack of connection to others. Musically the track is influenced by sparks, stereolab, and city morgue”.
